What does PortaBook consist of?

PortaBook is set of tools, skins and services which allows a user
to create, publish and distribute a book, album, catalog or a
literature work under his own control. It consists from user point of
view of:

Editor – used for creating a publication
Skins – used for final graphical look and feel of created publication
Generator license – allowing you to create final Flash publication

What is preview mode?

For the author to be able to see the final look of a publication
he creates, a preview mode in PortaBook Editor is used. Generated
publication contains additional watermark drawing users attention to
the result used only for a review. If the author is satisfied with
the result generated by a preview mode he has to use its generator
license for generating final form of the publication.

What do I need to start creating with PortaBook?

At least it is neccessary to buy a PortaBook Editor license, a Generator license and one of available Skins to be able to wrap publication content into nice graphical look.

What are the basic steps of an author-beginner?

After ordering and paying for neccessary licenses, downloading a programm, skin and installing everything on a computer these usual steps author will follow:

Start PortaBook Editor
Create a new publication or open existing one
Insert a content
Generate an intermediate result in preview mode
Go back to 3rd point or if he is satisfied with the preview mode result go to the next step
Put a request to generate final publication version
Final version of the publication will be generated on our server and be available via web interface or within PortaBook Editor. Number of buyed Generator licenses will be decremented by one.

What can I order?

Currently it is possible to order a license of:

PortaBook Editor – valid for one installation of the program on exactly one client computer
Generator – there are more kinds differentiated by a number of possible counts used for generating final publication.
Skin – valid for all available language versions of the chosen skin

What is DocBook?

DocBook is semantic markup language that enables its users to create document content in a presentation-neutral form that captures the logical structure of the content. That content can then be published in a variety of formats, including HTML, PDF, RTF, etc. without requiring users to make any changes to the source.
PortaBook Editor supports DocBook XML format as an input document. By using the format compatibility, accessibility, understandability and possibility to create PortaBook publication from various types of documents can be ensured.
